CNC Lathe
Since its inception, the AWFAE has been a huge supporter Oakmont’s Technology Engineering
department and its effort to advance the curriculum and technology as far as possible for the benefit
of the students. Over the years we’ve applied for and received many different CNC (automated)
machines. We’ve implemented those machines in many classes and projects with tremendous
success. But, there are still machines needed to upgrade our machine shop to have every machine
necessary to prepare students for what they’ll encounter in a world that is rapidly becoming more and
more automated. One of our goals is to give students the opportunity to gain certifications that they
can use in college and the working world. Automated manufacturing is one of those areas, but we
cannot do that without the right machines. So, the purpose of this grant is to purchase a CNC Lathe.
We send a lot of our students to some of the best engineering and technical schools. We monitor
post graduate success and weakness as a means of updating our curriculum. What does that mean to
you? Overwhelmingly, the feedback from our post graduate students is that their experience in CAD,
Engineering, Robotics, Programming, and CNC machinery have clearly set them at an advantage over
their college classmates. We are fortunate to have the best and the brightest involved in our program.
Along with that fortune comes the responsibility to provide these students with an education and
experience that includes updated technology. Your support allows us to continue our forward progress
and success.
The more CNC machines we purchase, the more we find uses for them throughout our various
courses. This CNC Lathe will have an immediate impact on multiple courses and projects. One of the
biggest things we’re trying to do is obtain certifications for students, but we cannot do that without
certain machines. This CNC Lathe is the first step in that process.
